thing you create could genuinely move someone’s soul.
Over the many years together, the men of Fastball have come to appreciate that the whole point of their careers together is building off of the trust, creativity and just plain hard work of making inspired music together. It’s a career highlighted by the early career chart-topping success of hit single “The Way,” which guitarist Miles Zuniga wryly remarks, “I like to say that ‘The Way’ gave us the freedom to continue doing what we do.”
What the band has done steadily through the years is continually hone its voice and sound, which has further evolved on its new self-titled album, recorded in far west Texas at Sonic Ranch Studio with acclaimed producer David Garza. Fastball is the fourth album the band has made during a 10-year streak that founders Zuniga, guitarist/singer Tony Scalzo, and drummer Joey Shuffield agree has seen them at their most creative and open-hearted as a trio of musicians and lifelong friends.

The 502s are known as the happiest band on earth. Led by earnest banjo-strumming lead singer-songwriter Ed Isola, the six piece indie-folk (or beach core or ska folk) band from Orlando is more than just a group of happy-go-lucky musicians, they are one of the best live bands of their generation. The raucous, nonstop, life-affirming experience of a 502s show is quickly becoming a thing of legend.

In three short years, the 502s leapt from their first show at a local bar to selling out tours across the US and Europe, fueled by their hit “Just A Little While” (100m streams and counting). However, to credit their fast rise to success on one song misses the full story and would greatly disappoint the enthusiastic fanbase who sing every word to every song at their live shows. As a fan once famously said “If you could bottle this experience up and sell it, it would solve a lot of the world’s problems.”

Tommy Stinson

You can needle-drop at any juncture of the Minneapolis native’s four-decade-plus career and find a moment of great significance. Stinson was a founding and lifetime member of the Replacements. He was a key second-generation ingredient in Guns N’ Roses and served a seven-year tenure with Soul Asylum. He also led two essential bands of his own — the aptly named Bash & Pop and Perfect — appeared on recordings by the Old 97’s, MOTH and BT and played bass on the Rock Remix of Puff Daddy’s “It’s All About the Benjamins.
