Asbury Park has gone to the dogs.
And they’re loving it. The 2017 edition of the hit Yappy Hour at the Wonder Bar in Asbury Park will have its grand opening Saturday, April 8.
The day will be a benefit for the Asbury Boardwalk Rescue and NRG Acoustic will perform from 2 to 4 p.m.
What’s a Yappy Hour? Attendees bring their dogs to the bar where they frolic in a fenced-in outside area that has pools, sand boxes, toys and sundry amusements.
The dogs have fun, too.
Yappy Hour was founded 12 years ago by Debbie DeLisa, manager at the Wonder Bar.
“Everybody knows your name, everybody knows your dog’s name,” said DeLisa to the Asbury Park Press last summer.
The dogs must be neutered and have a rabies tag or dog license. Choke, prong and spike collars are not allowed and the Wonder Bar asks that owners don’t bring dog toys or food. Owners, who must be 21 and over, must pick up after their dogs, too.
Other Yappy Hour event include an Easter Party for Pups on Easter Sunday, April 16; a Spring Benefit for MidAtlantic Bulldog Rescue on Saturday, April 22, with a rain date of April 29; and PugaPalooza returns the first weekend in May.
Vinnie Pastore’s Gangster Squad, Jersey Style, featuring Tony “Bocci” Amato, Eddie Denise, Tommy “Budha” Blues, John Hawes, Paul Nelson and special guest Killer Joe, perform Saturday, Feb. 11 at the Wonder Bar in a Valentine’s Day weekend benefit for the Asbury Boardwalk Rescue. Tickets are $15.
